and now a word from our interns

Says Eleanor (who, among other things, tackled the ginormous task of sitting in for Nicole while she was in Europe and lived to talk about it): Let’s face it, any internship involving super cute party dresses, in-studio photo shoots and insane sample sales can’t be half bad, right? My thoughts, exactly. After my summer at Thread, I can find my way to Conde Nast walking backwards, cut the perfect fabric swatch, and, of course, look super cute while doing it all.

Says Kathryn (pattern-maker extraordinaire and budding investigative photographer): You always hear these horror stories about interns fetching coffee and manning the desks; at Thread I’ve done nothing even close to those things. Seeing all of the work and detail it takes to make just one of these lovely dresses is just insane, so when I was asked to assist with some pattern-making, I couldn’t believe it, thinking, “Uh, really? I’m just an intern.” (Now, of course, I think I’m quite the connoisseur when it comes to pattern-making!)

Says Us at Thread (who don’t know what the H we are going to do when all these gals leave us oh-so shortly): Aw, thanks, guys! We shall miss you.

[Ed. Note: And no, we did not put them up to this. Well, not really.]

Our little seafoam summer dress & something metallic, a la Naomi here. Done and done.

Well done, InStyle. As always.

Have you ever seen a cuter sight than our darling interns hard at work at our sample sale, just looking like perfect little spoke models in their Thread Social ensembles?

No?

Us neither.

Thread Social will be on good ol’ Gilt Group tomorrow (Tuesday), starting at 12pm sharp, EST. We advise checking it out, and that is an understatement: We can pretty much promise you will freak out at the dresses for sale.

(If you aren’t yet a member, join here. Thank us later.)

summer in the city.

It is a hundred million degrees here in the city, which means, for those of you who don’t know, things get a little… off. In a good (but weird) way. New York is empty, for starters, but the New Yorkers that are still here, well, we inhabit the city in a quiet, heat-induced daze.  We roam the sidewalks at a snail’s pace so as to not to break a sweat. We use the oppressive heat as a valid (and widely accepted) excuse for being late to work, and for wearing whatever weird ensemble might keep us coolest. We drink bottle after bottle of rose under the pretense of ‘keeping cool.’ Our email inboxes sit empty for minutes, if not whole hours, and it seems nary a day passes where something totally bizarre happens. A blackout, maybe, or, say, a cab driving into the side of our building for absolutely no good reason.

Which, as you can, see was our Totally Bizarre Event of this hot day. We felt/ heard a creepily and impossibly loud noise whilst sitting at our desks (whilst working hard, we swear!), sent our interns downstairs to investigate and this what they came back with.

What’s next, we wonder? (And no, no one was hurt.)

Our own Beth, that is. Here she is snapped by WWD last week at an event she co-hosted with pals Lela Rose and Fernanda Niven for Edible Schoolyard, a wonderful initiative headed by chef Alice Waters to plant veggie gardens in public schools. There were lots of really cool things about the event: The fact that a full one hundred percent of the event’s proceeds went entirely to the night’s cause, for starters. That the meal served was prepared by no other than Alice Waters herself. (See her pictured below amongst a bevy of veggies, and look her up if you haven’t heard of her. Seriously.) Oh, and no biggie here: That the venue (aka Lela’s apartment) boasted a pre-set dining table that was lowered from the ceiling when dinner was served.

One small aspect that particularly and arbitrarily charmed us, however, was that the event took place on the Summer Solstice. Don’t ask us why: Maybe it has something to do with that whole circle of life, cyclical union between man, nature and sun type of thing. Or maybe it’s because we’re just so freakin’ happy it is finally summer and we can all run around in happy sundresses and chic jumpsuits, a la Beth (at left in Thread Social) and Fernanda (bottom left in Thread Social).

You know, either or.

and the drumroll, please…

Picture 12

We are so thrilled to present/ unveil/ launch (what have you) a special collection of party dresses that we at Thread Social have been working on for the past few months for Priscilla of Boston. (And we’re not the only excited ones: Our fave fashion mags, from InStyle to Brides, are giddily spreading the word, too!) The dresses will be sold at three Priscilla of Boston locations (San Jose, CA, Scottsdale, AZ and Philadelphia, PA) for starters; come fall, we will be expanding into more locations across the country. And now that the designing is done, we can focus on the part we’re really looking forward to, which is, naturally, the fun champagne-y soirees we are throwing in each of the three cities to celebrate the launch of our happy little dress collection. Bring on the bubbly!

(This lovely image is from a shoot for the collection we had at Beth’s apt a few weeks ago. Cute dress, right? Stay tuned for pics of the rest of ‘em…)

shoe alert! shoe alert!

Picture 4Imagine our delight upon discovering that one of our favorite online shopping sites, Net-a-Porter.com, is having a MASSIVE sale at this very moment. We quickly jumped on the shoe sale section of the site (in the name of research and work, of course) and nearly passed out with excitement at what we discovered: Just about every shoe we have been trying to rationalize buying over the past few months is up on there and for sale. (Deep breaths, deep breaths. Calm. Okay.) The sandals we dreamed about buying last January? 30% off. The heels we came thisclose to using for our summer shoot? Also 40% off. (Yes, we are clearly fans of Lanvin up in these parts, and yes, we know: Even with the discounts, these shoes are still a wee bit pricey. But we consider these investments, not just shoes, and you should, too.)

We don’t know about you, but our “What perfect summer shoe do we wear with this perfect summer dress?” conundrum has just been solved.

easy, breezy.

When Nicole arrived at her desk on Tuesday, there was an email from Melissa’s husband, Alex, that simply read, “I thought Melissa looked good this morning in her Thread skirt, so I took a picture.” and included the picture at left. (Can we get a gigantic Aww here?) In any case, we 100% agree with Alex. We love how Melissa tucked a breezy plaid buttondown into our ReThread ivory skirt. Such a fresh and easy take on office chic. (And, yah: those gorgeous Lanvin heels don’t hurt, either!)

(Buy the ReThread skirt here. It’s only $125 and so one of those pieces that, once you own, can’t imagine how you ever lived without it.)
